Michal Urban: Building a New Path in Energy and Sustainability

Michal Urban represents a new generation of Slovak entrepreneurs who view business as an opportunity to create positive change rather than mere commerce. As the co-founder of URBANIX s.r.o., he has played a crucial role in evolving a small startup into a company specializing in industrial LED lighting, photovoltaic systems, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Through innovation and a focus on sustainable technologies, he has helped establish URBANIX as a growing player in the energy sector.

The inception of URBANIX was not a spontaneous idea but rather a culmination of a long-term vision. The URBANIX name was first used in academic projects, laying the groundwork for the eventual establishment of the company. Today, URBANIX operates across Slovakia and the Czech Republic, achieving annual growth of approximately 30% and employing around 50 people. This success reflects a commitment to innovation and sustainable business practices.

His ambitions extend beyond business achievements. One of his long-term goals is the construction of a fully energy-independent, off-grid headquarters near Žilina by 2030. The project aims to integrate renewable energy production, intelligent energy management, and a closed-loop water system, showcasing a practical model of sustainable infrastructure in action.

For him, energy is more than a commodity; it represents a responsibility. He believes that electrical energy is an essential part of contemporary life and should be used efficiently and sustainably. This philosophy drives every aspect of URBANIX's operations and reinforces the company's commitment to innovation in energy solutions.

Beyond his entrepreneurial endeavors, he serves as the chairman of the civic association Vaše šťastie, which focuses on supporting sports and education initiatives. His commitment to community development reflects a belief in fostering collaboration, education, and growth. Furthermore, he is an active member of Business Network International (BNI) in both Žilina and Bratislava, where he promotes networking and mutual support among local businesses.

His leadership style is influenced by extensive experience in karate and a deep appreciation for Asian philosophy. He emphasizes balance, discipline, and cooperation, qualities that resonate throughout the culture of URBANIX. By cultivating an environment that values these principles, he inspires his team to strive for excellence while remaining grounded in their responsibilities to the community and the environment.
