He received his initial education at kindergarten in Kansas City while his parents pursued their Master's degrees. Later, he returned to Malaysia, where he enrolled in SK Raja Muda and SK Sungai Rokam Perak Primary School. He then proceeded to SMK Gunung Rapat and SMK TTDI Jaya for secondary education before attending a boarding school in Muar, Johor, known as SM Sains Muar. He subsequently received a scholarship from JPA (Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam) to study for his degree in architecture. He attended INTEC (Institut Teknologi MARA) as a preparatory college and continued his studies in New Zealand for six years, where he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Auckland, graduating in 2013
Qayyum served as an Architectural Intern at various companies from 2008 to 2012. These companies consist of Hasa Architect (Malaysia), GDP Architects (Malaysia), and ECF Architecture (Turkey). Throughout his internship in architecture, he acquired significant experience in the discipline, which involved working on diverse projects, helping with design and drafting activities, and gaining insights into the architectural process from seasoned experts. This internship phase was essential for developing his fundamental skills and understanding in architecture prior to progressing on to more advanced positions in his career. He also had the experience of working as a CAD Drafter at Kirin Insulated Panel NZ Ltd during the year 2012-2013 in Auckland. After spending several years abroad, Qayyum came back home and joined GDP Architects; one of the largest and leading architectural firms in Malaysia. Throughout his time at GDP Architects, he participated in different facets of architectural design and project management. In his role as an architect, he was responsible for designing space planning, creating detailed plans, and making sure that projects adhered to client specifications and followed building codes and regulations. In his role as an Associate, he was in charge of overseeing projects, liaising with clients, consultants, contractors and authorities, while aiding in the firm's strategic planning. His position demanded a solid grasp of architectural concepts, project management abilities and the capability to guide and mentor his team members. Spending 11 years at GDP Architects gave him significant experience in the architecture industry. Qayyum enjoys discovering new locations and challenges, which is why he is currently employed at ERTH Estate Development Company, Saudi Arabia as a Development Manager. In this role, he manages the development of high impact projects in one of the fastest growing construction markets in the world, dealing with various projects ranging from masterplan to mixed-development, hospitality and residential.

He serves various local universities such as University of Malaya (UM), International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as a tutor and industry expert for Crit Panels. In these roles, he mentors and guides students, sharing his expertise and experience in architecture. This involvement in academia helps nurture the next generation of architects and contributes to the educational community.
