At the national level, he established the Indonesia Center for Technology Empowerment (ICTE), a foundation that serves as a platform for contributing to innovation, research, and technology in support of national development. He also maintains strong ties with his two alma maters—the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Indonesia. His contributions include bridging academic institutions and the industrial sector to enhance the relevance of education to real-world needs. In support of human resource development, he regularly speaks at seminars, conducts training programs, and delivers lectures in various countries.

PMM - PERSONAL MAGIC MOMENTS

He once experienced a life-changing moment, which he shared in a column titled “Kisah Sebuah Penghapus.” It centered on the challenges and struggles he faced in gaining admission to MIT. His success was the result of thorough self-preparation, a supportive environment—including outstanding lecturers who were graduates of top U.S. universities—and a strong commitment to the principle of delayed gratification: the ability to forgo immediate rewards in pursuit of greater long-term goals. This principle underlies choices such as saving instead of spending, studying instead of partying, and training hard today for future success. His environment and experiences, including working with leading figures in both the aircraft industry and academia, played a significant role in shaping his character and career. Altogether, these influences marked a turning point that helped define the person and professional he has become.

OA - OTHER ACTIVITIES

His future plan is to complete and publish several books that he has long planned, especially in the fields of robotics and unmanned marine systems. He is currently preparing two new books that are developments of his previous works, including a paper he wrote 15 years ago on unmanned underwater vehicles. He wants to document and systematically organize the knowledge and experience he has collected for more than two decades. Although he has formally retired since 2017, he is still actively writing and creating. For him, scientific contributions that have an impact and are used by others are a form of long-term dedication that does not stop even though the academic term has ended.

ROS - REASON OF SUCCESS

The key to his success lies in consistency, patience, and the belief that nothing is impossible. He emphasizes the importance of having a clear goal and the passion to keep moving forward. Another critical factor is the guidance of an experienced mentor, which can accelerate the learning process and help avoid common mistakes. He also embraces a beginner’s mindset—a mental attitude of always seeing oneself as a learner, regardless of past academic or professional accomplishments. With this mindset, he remains open to learning new things, even beyond his area of expertise, such as artificial intelligence. For him, learning is a lifelong journey and a vital foundation for staying relevant, driving innovation, and making meaningful contributions.
