Andre Gunawan draws deep inspiration from his late father, a lifelong physician who treated patients from their home clinic and continued his profession well into his 80s, despite suffering from chronic pain due to rheumatism and osteoporosis. Even two weeks before his hospitalisation, his father continued to serve his patients with unwavering commitment. His mental sharpness and dedication left a lasting impression on Andre, shaping his view on service, perseverance and humility in leadership
1969–1974 SD Taruna Nusa Harapan, Mojokerto; 1975–1977 SMP Taruna Nusa Harapan, Mojokerto; 1978–1980 SMA Katolik Frateran, Surabaya; 1981–1987 Delft University of Technology, Netherlands – MSc in Civil Engineering; 1987–1989 Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University – MBA in General Management; 2014–2016 Sekolah Tinggi Teologi INTI, Bandung – MA in Leadership Studies.
Andre began his professional journey in the Netherlands as a system analyst for VOLMAC at G&D Software (1989–1991), before returning to Indonesia where he held a number of key leadership roles across major companies. He served as National Marketing Manager at PT Pabrik Tekstil Kasrie (1991–1996), then joined PT Makro Indonesia as Senior General Manager (1996–2004). His extensive corporate leadership journey continued as President Director of PT Electronic City Indonesia Tbk (2004–2007), President Director of PT Plaza Lifestyle Prima (fX Sudirman) (2007–2009), Commercial Director of PT Lotte Shopping Indonesia (2009–2012), and Managing Director of FamilyMart Indonesia (2012–2015). In 2015, Andre co-founded XWORK, a digital marketplace providing office space and venue rentals, alongside two younger partners. Since 2017, Andre has fully transitioned into Executive and Leadership Coaching. His introduction to coaching began when he was invited to serve as a career coach due to his extensive leadership background. He soon discovered that coaching is a structured and ethical profession that demands more than experience—it requires rigorous training, accreditation, and deep self-awareness. To ensure his practice met international standards, Andre pursued extensive coach training and earned multiple global certifications. He holds the PCC and ACTC credentials from the International Coaching Federation (ICF); the Senior Practitioner credential and ITCA/ESIA accreditations from the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC); and the Board Certified Coach (BCC) credential from Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE). In addition, he completed seven formal coach-training programs from around the world, including certifications in Team Coaching (Germany), Mentor Coaching (USA), Coaching Supervision (UK), Marshall Goldsmith SCC (USA), ICC (UK), Coach Masters Academy (Singapore), and RCA (Indonesia). He also undertook training in positive psychology to enrich his coaching presence and mental flexibility. To complement his work with leaders, he is a certified Hogan Assessor, enabling him to interpret advanced personality assessments that guide deeper leadership development. In addition to his coaching practice, Andre also serves as a faculty member at the Coaching Mentoring Institute, where he contributes as one of the trainers in the Team Coaching Training Program. His involvement in this program reflects his commitment not only to practicing coaching at a high level, but also to developing future team coaches with the skills and mindset required to support modern organizations. Andre focuses on supporting senior leaders who carry heavy responsibilities and often lack a safe space to discuss their challenges. He believes that while talking to superiors may feel risky, and sharing with peers may be misunderstood, coaching provides a confidential, non-judgmental space that allows reflection, clarity, and personal growth. His role is not to give direct solutions, but to listen deeply, challenge perspectives, and empower clients to find their own way forward.

Beyond his professional engagements, Andre dedicates 15–20% of his time to social initiatives. He offers coaching at significantly reduced rates or pro bono, especially to individuals or organisations in need. He is also actively involved in community-based coaching programs organised through his professional networks
International Coaching Federation (ICF); European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC); Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE); Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching (MGSCC); International Coaching Community (ICC).
One of Andre’s most memorable coaching experiences involved a high-performing executive who, in the midst of their coaching programme, was abruptly relocated to a different business unit. The sudden change left the client confused, frustrated and disconnected. Though their sessions were cut short, Andre reached out to the client out of genuine care. Eventually, the client responded and agreed to meet. While outwardly composed, the client was visibly disheartened. Andre listened, offered support and encouraged them to embrace the new challenge with courage. Not long after, the client received a promotion. A year later, when the company reinstated its coaching programme, the same client personally requested Andre as their coach again—a powerful testament to the impact of coaching, and of the human connection behind it

Coaching and assisting others has always been a passion for Andre—something that began as a personal interest and eventually became a professional calling.
The biggest turning point in Andre’s life was his decision to fully pursue coaching as a profession. Though it was never part of his original career plan, the transition felt natural, even destined. He found deep fulfillment in helping others grow, and realised that his years of corporate leadership had prepared him well for this new path.
Since 2025, Andre has served as the Community Leader for Coaching Supervision at the ICF Jakarta Chapter, where he facilitates monthly learning spaces for coaches to reflect on their practice and elevate coaching standards. Prior to this role, he actively contributed as a speaker and offered pro-bono coaching on behalf of ICF Jakarta, supporting both public initiatives and member development.
After moving into coaching, Andre’s definition of success has changed. In his corporate career, success was marked by milestones and achievements. However, over time, he has come to understand that such accomplishments are temporary. Today, true success for him means living a life that brings value and meaning to others. His guiding principle is simple: support people to grow, contribute positively, and prioritise human well-being—without expectation of reward or recognition. For him, the ultimate fulfillment lies in being of service.
