These are the landmark cases achieved by him which have significantly influenced and shaped Singaporean law. In the case of Lassiter Ann Masters v To Keng Lam [2005] 2 SLR(R) 8, a monumental personal injury/fatal claim in Singapore amounting to US$230 million prompted legal reforms. This decision led to the 2009 amendment of the Civil Law Act, introducing a provision for claims related to loss of inheritance. Another pivotal case, Ngiam Kong Seng and another v Lim Chiew Hock [2008] 3 SLR(R) 674, established the Spandeck test for negligence leading to psychiatric harm. Chai Kang Wei Samuel v Shaw Linda Gillian [2010] 3 SLR 587 stands as the definitive case on claims for loss of future earnings and earning capacity. Lai Wai Keong Eugene v Loo Wei Yen [2014] 3 SLR 702 played a crucial role in the publication and adoption of Actuarial Tables from April 1, 2021. Asnah bte Ab Rahman v Li Jianli [2016] 2 SLR 944 marked the first dissenting judgment from the Court of Appeal in a road traffic accident case, becoming a locus classicus for contributory negligence defense in Singapore. Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore v AM General Insurance Bhd (formerly known as Kurnia Insurans (Malaysia) Bhd) (Liew Voon Fah, Third Party) [2018] 4 SLR 882 significantly impacted the insurance industry by establishing the principle that the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Singapore can seek reimbursement from its Malaysian members and enforce payment without first compensating road traffic accident victims. Finally, in Foo Kok Boon v Ngeow Kheong Shen and others and another matter [2003] SGHC 189, the court introduced the rare doctrine of prospective overruling, setting precedents as the first case where the pronouncement occurred in a different case and the first instance where a trial court, not an appellate court, made the pronouncement
