Anton
For Anton, two figures in his family played a significant role in shaping his values. The first is his uncle, Antonius Josef Witono Sarsanto, his mother’s elder brother, a distinguished general who once served as Commander of the Siliwangi, West Java Military Region, Commander of the Regional Commands in Makassar and West Kalimantan, and later as Indonesia’s Ambassador to Japan. Coming from a humble background with only a high school education, he built his career from the ground up, took part in Indonesia’s independence struggles, and eventually rose to the rank of general. His perseverance, integrity, and great vision for the nation left a deep impression on Anton. Although Anton did not choose the military path, being more inclined toward civil service, he aspired to emulate his uncle’s spirit and integrity by contributing through financial and capital market policies. The second figure is his mother, who became a constant source of inspiration through her resilience and patience. From her, Anton learned the importance of perseverance and optimism, believing that every challenge can be overcome. The values of both his uncle and his mother have shaped Anton into a person who remains optimistic, positive, and committed to always giving his best.

One of Anton’s greatest achievements was leading and playing a significant role as coordinator in the establishment of the first Indonesia Carbon Exchange (IDX Carbon) in 2023, a project that had to be completed in just six to seven months. Despite facing numerous challenges, including intensive coordination with stakeholders at OJK and the capital market industry, collaboration with several ministries, the House of Representatives (DPR) approval process, and the complexities involved, he remained focused on the greater goal of delivering something valuable for Indonesia’s future. Another significant achievement was supporting Bank Indonesia in establishing a Central Counterparty for the Money Market and Foreign Exchange Market (CCP PUVA), operated by the Indonesian Clearing and Guarantee Corporation (KPEI) in 2024. KPEI's role as a CCP PUVA complements KPEI's previous role as a CCP in the capital market. This establishment aligns with the mandate of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (PPSK Law) and aims to strengthen the efficiency and security of financial markets. Beyond the achievements, his 30 years of continuous dedication and contribution to the nation in formulating, directing, and developing the banking industry and subsequently the capital markets are among the most valuable experiences and accomplishments of his life. For Anton, this was not merely a professional milestone but also a meaningful contribution to the nation. Rising to the role of Executive Director in banking policy and then Executive Director in capital markets policy were other defining moments, something he had never even dared to dream of in his younger years. In both fields, banking and then capital markets, Anton has contributed for more than 30 years through Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Indonesia Financial Service Authority (OJK) in the formulation and determination of Indonesian national policies to maintain and shape the stability and growth of the banking and capital markets industry in support of the resilience and development of the Indonesian economy. And now, through The Indonesia Capital Market Institute (TICMI) Anton contributes to increasing professionalism in the financial sector industries and developing the financial sector think tank institute. Coming from a humble background, Anton often reflects on how his journey mirrors that of his uncle, whose perseverance and dedication inspired him, even though he chose a different path. Step by step, with a positive mindset and the belief that every challenge has a solution, Anton has proven that determination and optimism can transform the seemingly impossible into reality.

Anton enjoys simple, meaningful pastimes. Reading and reflection, passions since school, sparked his interest in research and policy. Music helps him unwind, he plays guitar and chess sharpens his mind. He loves traveling, especially nature and historic sites. Inspired by a dream to see the Seven Wonders, he uses work trips to visit landmarks and go on pilgrimages. These hobbies enrich his perspective, restore balance, and keep his spirit alive.
Since childhood, Anton has been known as an obedient and thoughtful person. He grew up with the belief that every step in life would be eased if approached with positivity and the determination to always be better. Coming from a humble background shaped his resolve not to experience the same hardships in adulthood, and many of the dreams he once held eventually came true, from learning about stocks, earning a scholarship to study abroad, contributed to country through formulating national financial policy, to ultimately returning to serve in the capital market. For him, the journey has been full of pleasant surprises: things that once felt distant are now becoming parts of his life story. Two major events, the 1998 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, became moments that taught Anton the true meaning of leadership in times of uncertainty. During and after those critical moments, he was tasked with drafting many new regulations. In 1999, upon returning to Indonesia, the government was in the midst of repairing its financial system, and Anton contributed by formulating new banking regulations to help restore stability and rebuild trust in the industry. From these experiences, he learned that life is about moving step by step, remaining consistent, confident, and certain that there is always a way forward.
Beyond his career, Anton plans a meaningful future. He vowed to pursue music and read his long-unopened book collection. His passion for knowledge fuels his desire to teach, consult, and advance financial studies.Open to new roles, he now serves as Director of an Institution that has a concern to enhancing and developing professionalism in the capital market and financial sector and as Chairman of the Board Commissioner at an investment firm, aligning with his goal to strengthen Indonesia’s capital market. Retirement, to him, marks a calm yet purposeful new chapter.
For Anton, the key to success lies in three principles: always doing his best, earning and keeping trust, and maintaining a positive mindset. From the very beginning of his career, he has worked wholeheartedly, helping his leaders, giving more than what was expected, and striving to deliver excellence in every task. He believes that in the world of finance, integrity and competence are the two most valuable assets, and both must be upheld consistently. Beyond that, Anton has always carried the conviction that every challenge can be overcome. Since childhood, he has trained himself to think, “I can,” and then find a way to make it happen. For him, success is not just about the final outcome, but about the courage to believe in oneself, the dedication to give one’s best, and the determination to grow a little better each day.
