He was born in Semarang to a father who was a journalist and a mother who was a teacher. His father encouraged him to pursue a career in engineering, nurturing both discipline and curiosity from an early age. Growing up, he was deeply drawn to the arts—performing in dramas and singing on stage—expressing himself through creative interpretation. These experiences revealed an early parallel in his life: a journalist conveys messages explicitly, while an artist communicates them implicitly. Reflecting on this connection, Baskoro once said, “An architect not only tells ideas through the physical design of a building, but also writes them through the design report.” This blend of rational structure and artistic sensibility would later define his unique architectural philosophy.

In 1981, he joined the English Summer Program at Bells School of Language in Norwich, UK, followed by an English Intensive Course at SUNY Buffalo, New York (1985). His curiosity about culture and communication led him to pursue a Japanese Intensive Program at the Language Center of ITB in 1994, deepening his intercultural understanding before his doctoral studies in Japan. During the late 1980s, he enriched his design knowledge through Summer Courses at Pratt Institute (1987) and City University of New York (1988), immersing himself in the architectural dynamics of one of the world’s most vibrant design cities. Later, in 1999, he participated in the Workshop Space–Syntax in BrasĂlia, organized by Brazil University and London University College — an experience that expanded his comprehension of spatial behavior and urban systems. These international exposures shaped his holistic design vision, blending cultural insight, linguistic awareness, and architectural intellect.

Also the author of two significant books that encapsulate his design philosophy and creative evolution. His first book, “Baskoro Tedjo – Extending Sensibilities Through Design” (2012), presents a curated collection of his architectural works, reflecting his sensitivity toward context, culture, and the human spirit within design. Nearly a decade later, in 2021, he released his second book, “Baskoro Tedjo – Berbagi” (“Sharing”), a thoughtful compilation of his works and personal journey since 2012. Through this publication, he invites readers to understand architecture as a lifelong dialogue between experience, emotion, and creativity — a reflection of his continuous growth as both designer and thinker.
Throughout his career, he has been deeply engaged in architectural education and mentorship, particularly through his long-standing role at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and his active participation in professional organizations such as the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI). His contributions extend beyond academia into shaping a broader understanding of design as a cultural and ethical practice. Through lectures, workshops, and professional forums, he consistently advocates for cultural sensitivity and sustainable approaches in Indonesian architecture — inspiring both students and fellow architects to create designs that are responsible, human-centered, and rooted in local identity.

Widely recognized as one of Indonesia’s leading architects who successfully bridges modernism with Indonesian cultural identity. His designs — such as Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, Soekarno Memorial Library, and Lawangwangi Art Space — are considered benchmarks of contextual and artistic architecture in Indonesia. His philosophy emphasizes architecture as an emotional narrative, where space, light, and material harmonize with nature and culture.
Fluent in Indonesian, English, and Japanese, a reflection of his broad academic journey and international experiences. His multilingual ability has not only supported his studies and collaborations abroad but also enriched his capacity to communicate architectural ideas across cultures, bridging perspectives between Indonesia and the global design community.
Enjoys sketching, exploring cultural heritage sites, and observing traditional craftsmanship, which he often reinterprets into modern architectural language.
For him, one of the most fulfilling aspects of his journey lies in his role as an educator. Having taught for more than four decades — from the 1980s to the present — he finds profound joy in witnessing his students grow into remarkable architects, producing innovative and meaningful works. Each time he sees his students’ achievements, he shares in their pride and success, feeling that their creative breakthroughs are also part of his own legacy. As a lecturer, he believes that teaching is not merely about transferring knowledge but about building connection across generations. In today’s era, he embraces the challenge of communicating effectively with Generation Z, understanding their new perspectives while guiding them to appreciate timeless architectural values. For him, this ongoing dialogue between teacher and student is both a privilege and a source of endless inspiration.
Beyond his architectural practice, he expresses his creativity through writing and music, performing with Jazz Club and Keroncong Merah Putih; Also active as a speaker, jury member, and mentor in various architecture competitions, seminars, and workshops across Indonesia and abroad, continuing to inspire the next generation of designers through his passion and experience.
For him, success comes from unwavering focus and dedication; Believes in mastering one craft — to keep designing, learning, and evolving within the same path, without distraction. This lifelong commitment to architecture has shaped not only his career but also his character, proving that consistency and passion are the true foundations of enduring success.
