Budiman Hendropurnomo grew up in an East Javanese family that valued hard work, equality, and deep respect for cultural heritage. One of his greatest inspirations came from his great-grandmother — an extraordinary woman who defied the conventions of her time. With exceptional determination and vision, she led the construction of more than eighty buildings, starting from the Chinese temple to the main town square in Blitar (alun-alun), showcasing her remarkable leadership and technical ability. From her story, Budiman learned that strength, intelligence, and leadership are not defined by gender but by capability and will. This belief shaped his conviction that women possess equal potential to create, lead, and inspire. The legacy of his great-grandmother’s courage and vision continues to guide Budiman’s leadership at DCM Jakarta. He ensures that female employees are treated and empowered equally to their male counterparts, fostering an environment where talent, not gender, determines opportunity. For him, architecture is not only about building physical spaces — it is about building equality, courage, and respect for human potential

One of the most memorable moments in Budiman’s career was the creation of The Apurva Kempinski Bali — a monumental project that reflects his dedication, precision, and architectural vision. The construction took ten years of rigorous effort, where every detail was thoughtfully designed, and every process executed with utmost care. To achieve its iconic terraced landscape, part of the mountain had to be carefully reshaped, transforming the natural terrain into a masterpiece of architectural harmony. What made this project truly meaningful was not only its grandeur but also its spirit. Every stage of development was executed by Indonesian talents — a proud testament to the nation’s capability and craftsmanship. Under Budiman’s leadership and the creative direction of the DCM Jakarta team, The Apurva Kempinski became more than just a luxury resort; it stood as a symbol of Indonesia’s excellence in world-class architecture. The pinnacle of this achievement came when President Joko Widodo selected The Apurva Kempinski as the official venue for the G20 Summit, placing Indonesia’s artistry, resilience and innovation on the global stage.
