A Purpose-Driven Leader and Endurance Athlete: Dini Indrawati Septiani is a distinguished Indonesian leader recognised for her ability to build cross-sector and cross-border collaboration that drives meaningful social impact. As Regional Director for Southeast Asia at AVPN, she spearheads efforts to strengthen the region’s social investment ecosystem that is increasing the flow of financial, human, and intellectual capital from around the world into the social sector in Asia. Under her leadership, AVPN has become a trusted platform where diverse stakeholders come together to co-create solutions to some of the region’s most pressing development challenges. Her contributions extend far beyond organisational boundaries. Following up on Presidential Regulation Number 2 of 2022 concerning National Entrepreneurship Development for 2021-2024, Dini played a pivotal role in advancing the formal recognition of social enterprises through their registration on the official website of Indonesia’s Ministry of Law and Human Rights — a milestone that granted long-awaited legal legitimacy to enterprises balancing profit with social purpose. This breakthrough was achieved during her tenure at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), where she served as Vice Chairwoman of the Social Enterprises Regulation Task Force and Head of the Permanent Committee on Social Enterprises. Working closely with key ministries, she championed legal frameworks that enable social enterprises to thrive as engines of inclusive growth. Her impact also resonates at the regional level. In 2023, Dini was appointed Partnership Lead for ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Indonesia, a strategic role that allowed her to raise funds and bridge cross-country collaboration and promote inclusive economic development across Southeast Asia. This position reinforced her reputation as a leader who can connect Indonesia to the broader region while shaping conversations around sustainable growth. Dini’s leadership has gained international recognition through her selection into two of the world’s most prestigious leadership fellowships. In 2019, she was chosen as an Obama Foundation Leaders Asia Pacific Fellow, and in 2020 she was honoured as a Fellow of the Eisenhower Fellowships Women’s Leadership Program. These accolades reflect not only her professional achievements but also her standing out as one of the few Indonesian leaders entrusted with shaping solutions on the global stage. Yet for Dini, leadership is not only about grand strategies or high-level decisions. She believes that transformative change often begins in the smallest circles. One of her happiest moments was launching a workplace wellness programme at AVPN, encouraging staff to record physical activities through Strava and fostering a culture of health and camaraderie. What started as a modest initiative, quickly evolved into a cultural shift: colleagues became healthier, more motivated, and more connected. For Dini, this initiative exemplifies true leadership, the ability to inspire small changes that create lasting impact in people’s lives. This philosophy is deeply aligned with her passion for endurance sports
Indonesian, English
An avid runner, diver, and triathlete, Dini has competed in marathons, triathlons, and Ironman 70.3 events. For her, endurance sports are more than a hobby — they are a way of life, teaching discipline, consistency, resilience, and the courage to push beyond limits. Much like completing a marathon, Dini sees leadership and social change as journeys that begin with a single step, sustained by persistence and shared determination
Her guiding values — integrity, empathy, positivity, authenticity, and agility as lifelong learning — serve as a compass in both her personal and professional life. She firmly believes that integrity builds trust, empathy fosters connection, and continuous learning ensures relevance in a rapidly changing world. Through her work, Dini has left a meaningful legacy: carving out space for social enterprises in Indonesia, strengthening regional collaboration, and inspiring young leaders, particularly women, that it is possible to stand confidently on the global stage without losing authenticity. She embodies what it means to lead with purpose, leaving a lasting impact across sectors, generations, and nations.
